Crowes Bar Bohermore was founded at the turn of the 20th century in the year 1901 by William Crowe & his wife Ellen . As well as a small pub the premises also contained a grocery area . William & Ellen had a son called Michael John who in turn took over the running of the business . Michael John got married to Kate Fahy from Ballindooley , Co.Galway & together they had two children Gus & Helen .
Unfortunately Michael John died a young man when both children were only infants . His widow Kate continued to run the business with the help of her father-in-law William until such time as her son Gus was old enough to take charge . Gus , when he took over decided to discontinue the grocery department & operate the business solely as a public house . Gus got married to Breda Gillane (The present Mrs.Crowe) from Cloone near Gort & they had five sons . In April 1981 the premises was renovated to include indoor toilets & an increase in capacity . Unfortunately like his father however , Gus also died a young man , leaving his wife Breda to continue to run the business alone until her son Oliver (the current proprietor) was old enough to take over . In April 1994 the premises underwent it's second renovation resulting in a 100% capacity increase .
In December 1997 the the third & most complete renovation took place when the pub was totally re-built to modern day standards including a basement cold room , store rooms , kitchen , new bar & seating area , function room , beer garden & fire exiting corridor .
Crowe's is now a modern 21st century bar with all of the comforts you would expect . However in many ways it is exactly as it was on the day it first opened . It is family run , friendly & welcoming to all who call in to sample our hospitality . Regardless of what century we live in these are important attributes which you will find in abundance here in Crowes !
